There is growing recognition that psychosocial or behavioral factors are important contributors to morbidity and mortality across chronic diseases. For example, depression, sleep, tobacco use, and PTSD can all increase the risk of morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases.

To help identify these factors and develop screening tools for chronic diseases, we aim to improve our understanding of how psychosocial or behavioral factors influence health. This knowledge can then be used to develop targeted interventions and preventative measures.

Research has shown that improving the psychosocial or behavioral status of individuals with chronic disease can lead to improvements in their physical health.
